Google Indexing Frequencing

Is there consensus as to how quickly Google should index a site. Launched http://www.theriverreturns.org in early August. Page rank of 3 so far, but not really on Google's radar. The site made top 20 on MSN and Yahoo (for term "st. johns river") right away. The site has quality backlinks not all noticed by Google yet therefore the site is non-existent in rankings for key term.

Like any robot, if for example your site updates dialy your site may be crawled daily by any robots, if your site isn't updated all the time then the robot won't bother with crawling it daily.

Thanks for the response. What is that the robots look for that indicates that the site is updated daily or regularly?

When it crawls a page it may compare the pages to see if they've changed or compare the byte sizes and what not.

Google has 2 bots: the Googlebot and the Freshbot.

The freshbot visits the most frequently changing pages on your site - whether it's the home page, resource page, etc. This is why news sites like cnn rank so well - they are crawled at least once an hour by the freshbot.

It's during this time that Google discovers new links and marks the new urls in it's database. Then, when the once-a-month Googlebot comes to your site, it will crawl all the known pages of your website.

Thanks for the reply. Does the Freshbot pay much attention to RSS content and if so, in your opinion, does it contribute to a better ranking?
