GDS Failure?

My system:

WinXP Home SP3, 2.6 Ghz, 3 gigs memory, 4 physical harddrives, 11 partitions, M: contains all my 3,000+ research PDF files on a 1TB hard drive.

TweakGDS properly directs the GDS index into M:\Index. TweakGDS isolates my indexing and searching to my M: partition. GDS reports some 300,000 search items, but I can't browse to determine that all these items are really in my M: partition.

GDS search fails to find anything within my M: partition, but it does find some elsewhere in my system that I had hoped would not be indexed.

Does GDS have a built-in limit on the range of partitions it can see? If so, what is that limit? If so, how overcome?

While TweakGDS does properly setup the index into the M: partition, it does not appear to have any effect or control over searching.

I can use my full Acrobat 8.1.4 to search and it does report the hits I need, but it takes about 1 hour to do a search on a specific word or phrase.

Is there a way within GDS to specifically index only my M: partition and specifically search only my M: partition? The instantaneous response of GDS is highly desireable.

If not GDS, is there a standalone indexing utility that will index 3,000+ PDF files in a single directory on a large system, and search only the index for that single directory?

Curiously, if I move my 1TB research data/hard drive over to my workbench computer that has only a C: hard drive, tell TweakGDS to index and search on the 1TB partition alone, then GDS works like a champ over there, indexing and reporting back to me everything I need to know. But this workaround solution is not satisfactory as all my processing utilities are on my main computer.

Thoughts of others?
