Google Alerts/Search
Hi, I'm new to the forum and would like to find out if others are having the same problem with Google Alerts findings as I'm having. A couple of years ago I set up an alert for my name - no problem there, although my name is a common one. I also set up an alert for my actual website address and have been horrified to find that porn sites and other unscrupulous types are using my web address and the addresses of others as some sort of way of boosting their Google rank or something. I used to report it every time I got a return from Google Alerts, but now I don't even bother because nothing seems to change. I'm sure these people are doing something quite against the rules! The first time I clicked on one of the found links and went right to a nasty site, I was then hopping mad to find my web address as a link! I clicked on the link thinking it would lead to my website, but it only led to more porn!
I tried an experiment and put different website addresses in the Google search box with the same results! Even my church web address was not immune. Is there anything we can do about this? They are obviously doing this with every web address out there! I'm getting more and more alerts these days too! Diane |
