How does Google count backlinks?

Does anyone know if Google only counts backlinks from a page that ends up indexed? Or does it suffice as long as it crawls a page? (Non indexation could be due to duplicate content like it could be the case with article directories)

Google has its own algo, and no one can tell u that except Google itself!

Dennist wrote nice question about how to count the backlinks? Google is having many methods and they have some secret analysis for this and also when they crawl a website and they know the back links of the website and also the duplicate content also.
