I watched this video, which is dated July 15, 2005, and took notes on what piqued my interest.

Search and ads are core of company.
Improvements to search go relatively unnoticed. (Not true - I notice that Yahoo is currently better.)
Yahoo's index is larger than Google's. Though the numbers might not say so, there are pages I find in Yahoo that I can't find in Google.
Socks are no longer a bottleneck on his laundry cycle. I thought and did the same thing!
Spurious p-rn, 'trickery' results.
Improve ordering based on usage! Tracking clicks on each ranked result. Clickthrough rate in organic results.
