I've been dropped

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone might have some ideas on why a site that has ranked at number 1 on google for several years, for certain key words, would suddenly drop as follows; down from 1 to 7 (page 1) to middle of page 4 and then GONE completely all within the space of a few days?? Nothing on the page has changed. I don't resubmit often but as mentioned, I have maintained the top position for these key words for 6 plus years. The search words are fairly popular and sought after for high placement, so it's not like I was alone and suddenly there are more relevant pages. The main site page is still indexed in the top 5 for other, lesser used keywords, so I've not been dropped entirely...just for the key words that the site is particularly optimized for.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Well the last Google Update did some damage to spammers but also some good sites dissapeared from the results. You can try writing them but I guess nothing will change at least for 3-4 months.

Thank you for your response. Just wondering why you say nothing will change for 3-4 months? I must admit that unlike years ago when I was trying to move my site up the results page and was obsessed with everything having to do with search engines, I follow these things very little now, or didn't until I started again a few days ago

I still have the top spot in MSN.com and #2 in Yahoo, but I've moved down to 7,8,9, or so in others...guess that has to do with being lost from Google? It's funny but when searching in the Google directory for my primary search words, my site is served up #4 but it's been dropped from the main search. Does this make sense?

I really appreciate any input that can be offered.

I would contact them before the update is complete (it should be finished in a few days or a week) maybe you will be lucky

and again maybe you will get to your old rankings on your own when the update is complete! What are your statuses on other DCs?

Thank you. Can someone refer me to info on this update that has been mentioned?

After seeing that the site was no where to be found - for my optimized keywords - I resubmitted on the 8th of November and I see that the page was crawled on the 10th - the page is still there under less revelant (to me) keywords. Does this mean that they looked at the page again on the 10th and determined that it still wasn't relevant for the keywords that kept it at number 1 for so many years? Is there a particular link for contacting them in this regard?
