Is Google going to overtake all internet's free services? :)
Look at us: when it comes to mail - we use GMail. When it comes to netsearch - we use Google. When it comes to locating something - we use Google Maps. When it comes to read news - we use Google News. When it comes to look for or create discussion group - we use GoogleGroups. When it comes to dropping a bomb on some Iraqi terrorists, USA government uses Google Earth... (well, pretty sunsure about that last one)
So, is Google going to own all the internet's quality free services? I think it is a bit... possible at all. |

Yes, there's plenty of competition, and people that advocate for them. It can seem a bit one-sided reading here in Google Community,
but there are forums based on other services where the "G" word is seldom used. |

Furthermore, it would be best if Google would NOT monopolise the market. We benefit thanks to competition.
And although there are few Google zealots here certainly, I believe the staff behind the site are not among them... BTW...yeah, I like few Google services, tools and apps...but there are also some not that great. Besides I like Flickr very much (Yahoo) and del.icio.us |

I'd also want Google not to take over all the internet services 'cause - as said zima their competition is our gain, but the Google is nearby the search services hegemony, it can happen to it's other tools.
I hadn't asked if we are going to benefit from Google's hegemony, but if it is possible. |

All right, the GoogleOS is as pretty unreal as GoogleOffice. At all, what's it to be, a search engine or a bigger, better (sniff, maybe not, who knows) Micro$sof?
But, however I use Windows, I use OpenOffice instead of MO. |

I have to believe that Google won't be taking over everything. I think most folks will use Google services like I do. I have Yahoo, Hotmail, GMail, and my work mail. I use Google as a sort of nexus to organize everything. I think a lot of folks go with a mixed-mode approach.
Either way, I agree that there's a lot of competition for free internet services. If you don't believe me, just Google for them! |
