What's wrong with PR?

Few weeks ago the Google PR of my site was 4. But recently I've noted that it had changed to 1. Can somebody explain what can be the reason?

There could be many reasons why. To understand it better I need the url to your website, so I can analyse it.

I think that it could be to do with the amount of web sites linking to your site, as thats my pro SEO friend said to me about pagerank.

He told me that it is muchly based on how many pages link to the page in hand, and so it is wise to either create another site linking to yours or to get some more domains for your site for google.

The url of my site is http://freedom.org.ru . The most wondering thing is that PR for http://www.freedom.org.ru remains unchanged...

Google spider see with www and without www as two different page. Page rank depends on number of links pointing to your site... and so you wont have same number of links pointing to your site with www and without www... and so PR is different ..

Hope it was easy to understand.

Also, use a 301 redirect so that your root page doesn't appear twice. For example, if you select http://www.yourdomain.com/ as your root page, then if a spider tries to fetch http://yourdomain.com/ (without the www), your web server should do a permanent (301) redirect to your root page at http://www.yourdomain.com/.

PageRank depends on number and quality of links from other sites to your one. And sometimes it takes a lot of time to get high PR.

Because Google thinks the incoming link sucks

It's a very complex thing (math and what not) and the PR only updates every once in a while.
