Google isn't listing me like it used to :O(

My wife has an online lingerie business which has been fairly successful to say there is a lot of competition out there for this type of store.

In my wisdom I installed a sitemap and submitted it to google sitemaps (Beginning of December 2005) and waited to see what happened. The sitemap that was generated was fine and contained no errors but within 2 weeks of being active our listings reduced from 12000 down to about 800.

Had google had a general clear out during this time of have I damaged our google listings by installing the sitemap?

Has anyone else had this happen to them or is it just us?

Someone else can better explain the reasons why, but if you peruse the posts made around that time, you'll see quite a few people reporting a similar experience. It's not likely that your actions caused this.
This, of course, will not prevent your wife from blaming you.

I will check the previous posts out, thanks for the advice.

Luckily the sales over christmas and the new year were very good so i'm not in too much trouble with my wife
