"Make Google your default search"

When I opened up internet explorer today, this popped up:

Quite cool :P

Edit: Sorry if I was unclear....it came up inside the IE window, not as a popup.

Edit 2: When I clicked "Make Google your default search", it tried to install setie7defaultsearch.exe.

Edit 3 :P : It came up in the right hand corner, when I went to my homepage, Google.

There has to be something behind it, Google won't take over your pc and programs like that...

yeah, its adware, google doesnt spam like that.. there big enough to be seen

Well, Google Desktop Search has such option...

I did click it, but then it tried to download and install a .exe, but I didn't do that.

P.S. I edited my first post. It wasn't a pop-up....it was a message which appeared in the corner when I went to my homepage, Google.

That's the prompt used by many "custom search" bars that incorporate a Google search. These could include adware, spyware, or just a crappy feebie bar that some people think is a good idea for site promotion.

Probably no big deal, but you may want to check your start-up programs, or clear internet files, if this decides it wants to keep trying to install itself.
Me, I'd run Adaware, too.

It's not bothering me, as the only thing I use IE for is Live Mail, and the "Quoting game" :P

I hate it when I click on the "last posted" in the forum, and that thing starts loading up, with me madly trying to click out of the stupid thing.

Surprisingly, it works almost the same as other posts in IE

IE being better than Firefox for something

Yeah something is definitely wrong. What does "Make Google your default search" mean anyway? Click the search button and it gets you to Google right away? Or does it mean desktop search which explains why it tried to install something to replace the default search in the start menu? Then again, the file name is setie7defaultsearch.exe?

All in all, good decision for not downloading the thing, whatever it is.
