Anyone know how DMOZ works?

Hello -

I've submitted my URL 3 times over the last 10 months and I have not heard back from DMOZ.

Is this because there is a huge backlog?

Does DMOZ ever respond via email - acceptance or rejection? How do you find out?

Just curious! Thanks!

I believe it depends on the category and the editors. If your site doesn't meet their standards, it may not be accepted. Make sure you submit to the right category.

What's your site about? Google Community is listed in Computers: Internet: Searching: Search Engines: Google.

We are unable to show outside URL's within this forum, which is fair enough, rules are rules.
But there are simple facts that need to be said and noted - Search SiteReportCard which is a dot com site - put your site through that system and if you score less than 8 do NOT submit your site to DMOZ - if you have broken links - then forget submitting. Yes pick the right category and once you have submitted - forget it - never chase -Yes they have a forum, but going there without knowing what you are doing is foolhardy to say the least. Upset a DMOZ editor or make jokes about paying for submissions and you are dead in the water -period. MSN is currently feeding from DMOZ - it really (and please trust me on this) is a case of submitting and forgetting about it.

That's not quite the case. If you feel that mention of a site is a legitimate, helpful response to a question, by all means, mention it.
This is only discouraged when the site is not a real solution, the poster does not disclose an affiliation, or promotion of the site is the poster's only purpose. Of course referral links are not allowed.
Otherwise, if you can vouch for the value of the site, then there is no reason not to post a link.

Dmoz is very tricky. The only suggestion that I can give is that you must ensure that your content is formatted in an organization on par with anyone curredntly listed AND you must have content that is unique and different from the other sites currently listed.

As long as you have these two things (especially the last one) you have an extremely good chance of getting listed.

(I know my advice is obvious... but still it is something to think about)

For one, you get a good quality link from a respected site. Search engines love good quality links
