Good Guy, Great Sites, But No Luck! - what are your thoughts

Hi all.

I'm new here, but I've been a web developer for over 6 years now. I've built many websites for clients, and in 2004 I started building my own sites.

I have worked for over a year building these two websites.

An Online Dating site & an Auction Tools site
[Links removed: those interested can refer to those in the signature -mondine]

I put everything I got into building theses sites. Many hours of honest sweat with the hopes that people will enjoy, use, and benefit from them. Neither are designed for "get rich" schemes. They are legitimate sites.

However, I'm having such a hard time getting them to grow. I do everything I can think of to make them unique and useful, but still... these search engines are not helping at all.

Getting good incoming links is like pulling teeth. Link trading has become so congested, and no one wants to provide one way links anymore because they'd rather cash in somehow.

I'm here in the hopes that some of you experts might have some insight for me. Lend me a hand, and I'd be willing to lend you two. How can I get these sites more traffic? Good and unique content just doesn't seem to cut it anymore. And I spend every dime I have (whats left after bills) to improve or grow. And still... no luck.

I don't want to quit. I'm a hard working honest guy just trying to get by.
Any help, assistance, or insight would be greatly appreciated, and if I can return the favor, let me know.

Thank you for your time.

You are going to get blasted for posting your links on one of your first posts (I did)br
br
Anyways... for the gaming site the problem is that the urls are not
search engine friendly. Whenever there is an "?" is the url search
engines basically chicken out. Note how your pagerank goes from decent
(4) to nothing (0) when you go through one of those non-search engine
friendly links. br
br
Using <h1> </h1> header tags may help you a little bit too.br

Thanks for your reply and input.

What do you mean by blasted? I added the links because they are the sites that I am talking about in my post.

As for the ? in urls, you're right. Just don't know how I can change that. I know there is mod rewrite, but I'm not sure about how to implement it into the dating site.

One way that I believe would work is to have a static page that those links "link" to with a php include function to include the dynamic content.

It is really a bandaid... and I am not sure how effective it will be... but hell it is a suggestion.

And the admins get mad if you ask for imput into your own sites before making 50 posts or something like that...

This thread should be locked. It isn't even in the correct forum to be discussed, much less, I would classify this as spam.

PI appreciate your input. I'm looking into mod rewrite some more, because you're right about the ? and pages, and I hope I can manage to get it working on the site. I think it will makea good difference.PSPAN class=nameB/BPSPAN class=nameBAlbatross /BSPAN class=nameI have no intention on spamming this board. I came herehoping to get some insight. So if this is not the place to ask for any help or ideas, then I've mistaken this forum. And I don't see why "google search engine forum" is not the forum for my post. I'm here talking about search engines, my results, and google happens to be the one most of us try to get results from.

mondine is an unknown quantity at this point
Links that are unecessary to the question asked are removed.
Please do not use the message body of your post to argue with the decisions made by moderators or administrators.

As for formatting anomalies that are occurring, they are the result of a new Rich Text editor that we have just implemented, which has a few quirks to iron out.
