Potter, perhaps. After it Martin's ASIAF and Douglas' Guide. I know there are some better ones but I can't remember them right now. Memory.

I think you might want to consider Jack Vance's Dying Earth books, Leguin's A Wizard of Earthsea, Eddings' Belgariad, Silverberg's Lord Valentine's series, the Krondor series,I 've forgotten the author's name and others as well....
