Just a quick review at what Google has made and what they are making that may suggest that there is a possibility of a GoogleOS:
1. Google Web Server/GWS: An web server for Linux made by Google to use for their site. Very fast and effective but not a public web server. The speed is easily noticed through the fast searches 2. Google Browser: Developement has ensued and it is due to enter public beta sometime around late 2004/early 2005. Highly anticipated, google fans having high hopes of this. I hope it holds its ground against Firefox and Internet Explorer, its two main soon-to-be competitors. Yeah I think they will make a GoogleOS, but not anytime soon. Maybe in 2006 or 2007, but definately not in 2005 And if they DO make a GoogleOS, the question is, will it be a public OS like Windows, or will it only be privately used by Google? And if it is public, will it be free/open-source or commercial like Windows? Hehe, lots of questions.. |

This is a hard one. Your asking what we think Google will do. So we are talking about strategy and innovation. What's Googles strategie? I'm not sure. All they give us is their mission:
Quote:
- Search engine - Gmail - Froogle - Blogger - Translation tool - etc. If I take a good look at their products they all have a connection to their mission. To organize the world's information and make universally accessble. For example: gmail doesn't seem to be connected to that, but when you think about it, it does. Because what do you do when you use gmail, u organize the information ("search, don't sort", "don't throw away anything"). If you think about it you see that it all has to do with their mission in some way. How does a OS fit in this picture? I don't know, I can't figure it out. Perhaps I'm wrong but I don't see the connection with their mission. Therefore I don't think they will make a OS. It just isn't in line with their mission. Just my two cents. |

I agree with that. The internet is a large enough market; they may create desktop search applications to make information more accessible, but this doesn't necessitate the creation of a new OS.

Though its a possibility, I wouldn't support their decision if they decided to make an Operating System, because most people are already happy enough with Windows and Linux. No matter how much they complain, they don't have the guts to abandon the OS they use. Like many users complain about Windows yet they still use it. Google's OS would be a flop..
