Tennis Topic

Anyone else here like tennis? If so, please post whatever you want. About the pro tour, about your own tennis experience, anything!

Anyway, did anyone watch any Wimbledon matches? Unfortunately, I was away and with the time difference, Wimbledon was on at like... 2/3 AM? But I did get my updates from wimbledon.org...

Anyway, what do you think about Sharapova? Is she the new world's #1???? Is Serena no more????? POST YOUR THOUGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Federer is unstoppable. The world's number 2 only got 1 set off him... But some could argue that it was the rain blah blah.

ehh I'm not a tennis junkie like you GRox haha but i don't really like the Williams sisters added to the fact that Sharapova is a refreshing change to their domination of the women's wimbledon. she has intense passion, showing from her game face during serves and sets, and seems to concentrate well without any difficulties. and who is Federer?
i don't know many tennis players besides those mentioned above, a guy named Andy Roddick, and another guy named McEnroe (spelling?).

I think for the time being, Federer will be unstoppable. Although, Andy Roddick does pose a threat to him at the US Open, it's Andy's turf.

Sharapova is most definitely a refreshing star for pro tennis. Unlike the Williams sisters, she is dedicated to tennis, and that's a sign of the comeback of tennis. She's bound to go far, as she's number 5 in the world already.

WHO IS FEDERER????? >_>

He's only the best tennis player.. in the world...

I think you're right about Sharapova, even when she's losing she's not afraid to be aggressive... She owned Serena, especially with her returns... Honestly, I thought Serena would win, since I've never really seen Sharapova play.

The point where I was like, "Hmm maybe she isn't that bad" was when I found out she beat Sugiyama, who I thought actually had a good chance this time. She was doing well in this tournament, and I was actually rooting for her...............

I think you're right. It's probably going to be Federer and Roddick in the finals, as textbook as that is, but I think Roddick will probably win... In 5?

Yes, that makes sense. After all, hard courts are Andy's specialty: it's faster with more pace, and it fits comfortably with Roddick's pure power style of play. Federer seems to like courts that have slower balls that require a more finesse playing style.

Hey nick, do you play tennis yourself? If so, do you have a 1H or 2H backhand? I've always used a 2H, but just for kicks, I recently started teaching myself how to use a 1 hander.. It's going surprisingly well actually. I can hit some pretty hard shots... o_O

I still can't hit a good slice backhand though.

I like playing tennis (free-form, just hit the ball back and forth with no rules or score--I don't like rule-filled games as I consider them to be quite boring, I suppose that's why I prefer Checkers over Chess) and I use just one hand for everything. If I use two hands I end up hitting it 50 yards over the fence. And if I do that it lands in horse crap.

I'd probably play more and be more serious about it if I owned my own tennis court. But I don't think that will ever happen.

I do both, I try to have as many weapons as possible. I'm a right hander, and I have a one hand and two hand backhand. Lots of times I use slices as well. I find the having a one hand backhand lets you hit crosscourts better than with a two hander.

Luckily, I have a tennis court, so I try to practice as much as possible. What about you GRox?

wow, you two are quite the tennis fr..fanatics

i just strive to hit the tennis ball over the net like i see those professional tennis players do on tv :P lol. i agree, tntcheats, sometimes i hit it too hard upwards and the ball goes soaring over the fence on the other side quite annoying actually...but i'm working on it.

i just know that i hit it correctly if my tennis racquet makes a particular sound when it connects with the ball. i can do it a couple times on my own but can't hold up for long for a real game

what is a 1H and a 2H anyway?
