Victory in Europe (VE Day)

I just wonderd if any of you knew that today was VE Day, I've been thinking of posting this all day but havent but I thought it wouldent harm mentioning it, so I am.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_in_Europe_Day

Quote:
On Mar. 7, 1945, the Western Allies—whose chief commanders in the field were Omar N. Bradley and Bernard Law Montgomery—crossed the Rhine after having smashed through the strongly fortified Siegfried Line and overran West Germany. German collapse came after the meeting (Apr. 25) of the Western and Russian armies at Torgau in Saxony, and after Hitler's death amid the ruins of Berlin, which was falling to the Russians under marshals Zhukov and Konev. The unconditional surrender of Germany was signed at Rheims on May 7 and ratified at Berlin on May 8.

May 8 marks the formal celebration of the Allies' victory in Europe during World War II

How interesting it would have been, had the Germans actually won the war. A twist of events would've occured, and the world would probably have been different from how we see it now. Triumph requires grit and determination, which the Germans possessed.
The did not even have any lack of willpower or charisma. Their downfall was due to Hitler's hopeless stategy/tactic of taking all enemies on all frontiers at once, while practicising the 'divide and conquer' scheme at the same time.
I always wanted to be ruled by a German, ah well. I'm not "celebrating" since I don't care.

I think you should most definetly post something so significant, Darren. I'm glad you did. Learning is fun, especially when it concerns other Countries and Nationalities. Perspective is a good thing.

Eric, if you would like to be ruled by a German, you should have grown up in my household. My Father is very strict, and abrasive as well. He is more like Heinrich Himmler than Adolph Hitler though. Yikes!

My Father gave me my late Uncle Fritz's World War II Veterans ring, it's probably my most cherished possession. It's made from sterling silver. He was also a POW during the forgotten Korean War and tasted the butt of a rifle several times while in captivity. It's especially sad when "brother kills brother" during these major conflicts. That's why I hate politics so much, "fat cats" in suits with their agendas, never fighting themselves, only to lead and command others, who die in the process and for what, in many cases.
Ok, I'll stop now. I'm not advocating that these wars are unnecessary at all, I'm just frustrated when people kill other people is all..

Sounds like a plan. I'll be waiting at the Bering Strait near Siberia. You take the Lamborghini, I'll take the Delorean.

EDIT:
Just a reminder.
You shouldn't add an 's' after apostrophes for words/nouns concluding with 'x', 'z' or 's' when you want to indicate one of the noun/word's properties. A plain apostrophe is enough in such cases, and that is what is regarded as the correct use.

Thanks for the grammar lesson, Eric. You know it's really too bad that you've taken on a life of spam, I mean you're so bright, yet so dark.

You do realize that John DeLorean died not too long ago. Do you remember when he was involved in the infamous "rebates in the trunk" scandal?

If the Germans would have one the war, God only knows how horrible the world would be today. The 'machine'that was rapidly evolving had to be stopped for mankinds sake! Eva Braun was a looker though, huh!

I'll settle for a Loreal and a can of +1 instead in that case.

ICP sux0rz. Oasis is back, and I just got a laugh out of that 'too bad' comment. Thank God I didn't notice it earlier, else I wouldn't have been able to find an excuse for this +1.

adolph hitler compared to caesar

We can all agree that adolph hitler went against humanity in killing people just because of their ethnicity but did he misunderstand his place in humanity? He tried to use the jews to unite the anti jewish sentiment in the world but it failed miserably. He wasnt insane at all but if he compares to anyone it would be Caesar. He was probably one of the most significant men in history even when in the end he was misguided,in the beginning he was only righting the wrong of versaille.Powerful men sometimes make powerful mistakes ask Alexanderthe great, kingDavid,Napolean, etc. If Hitler instead used his power to officially recognize the Jewish homeland their would be memorials in every country for him today. aleah, actia, est
