To me the English language is the most beautiful one in the world! I wish we'd speak English here in Switzerland!

English is my first langauge and i still haven't mastered, it's said to be the hardest langauge to learn for people over 12. I say we drop the whole speaking thing and form some sort of blinking code or if the code fails, signing! I've learnt to sign and i'll teach you, point at what you want and you shall recieve.

Well, the poem is really old, that I know. It was submitted to an American newspaper called the "the Sunday times" about 40 years ago and its title was 'English is easy!'. I THINK the author wished to remain anonymous, but it may just be my bad memory. And to top it all off, an American teacher showed a paperback edition of the newspaper at school in Sweden. She was really old, so it could've been an original copy.

Well, the newspaper hinted that the poet was a Dutchman, but beyond that, other details were unknown or vague, including his name. You could search Google for a line of the poem and see if anything comes up. And by the way, many different versions of the poem are scattered around the 'net, Google hasn't proved much use in this case, each result leads to different interpretations of the final lines. :/

Modern Brit English sounds crude like they have marbles in their mouth when they speak.
Canadian and American English varies by region and can sound good or bad depending. It's the most recognized because of Hollywood films. Caribbean English is spoken very fast, it has a very interesting sound and rythem but can be hard to understand. The most pleasant sounding English is spoken by Australian women. |
