What are your views on SP2 ???

Full marks to M*crosoft in that they are at least trying to begin to do something about the security of Windows XP, and considering that they are having to do this in a society where a large amount of computer users are using unpatched systems, they do have a gargantuan job on their hands. For a long time, as one 'pundit' exclaimed just before the final release of SP2 was released to manufacturing, application companies have thought that it was "OK to travel around the Internet with all the windows down".
Well SP2 is shortly to be available via the Windows Update Site to the great majority of XP users, and already there are security Companies who have found 'flaws'. We have all heard stories of how good SP2 is and conversely, we have all heard stories to the contrary. Personally I think thare are going to be a few teething problems when the new security induced pack is released to a public that has scant knowledge of computers, and I also think there are probably going to be lots of stories of how SP2 has 'broken' some systems. Have M*crosoft got it right with SP2 ?....well at the moment I think the jury is still out, but at least they are making a start in trying to combat the hackers, SPAM Companies and Trojan writers who seem to be determined to bring M*crosoft to it's knees. Personally speaking, I think I am going to let "the dust settle" before I install SP2 But as I said at the beginning of this, full marks to M*crosoft, they are dammed whatever they do...but at least they are trying to do something, more power to them....

My views on Sp2 is that it will be a big success in microsoft's security... It will add alot of security... I was a beta tester for SP2 and I loved it... The security center is great... It tells you if you have your firewall on and if you have an antivirus or if it's up to date... The pop up blocker was also great for IE blocked most of the pop ups.... The thing they should have added was tabbed browsing... That would have been nice... The download options was nice too... You might not notice a difference when you get SP2 but when it comes to security there is a big difference!! Just check it out and you'll see.... Thank you!!

What is so special about service pack 2? does everyone have to download it for safety? i thought that it was released a long time ago. like i thought i saw it in my windows update url thing. maybe i'm worng. But yeah, what is the controversy about releasing another security system? i heard something about it and how it automatically enables the xp firewall. that's actually a good idea because it prevents noncomputer people from getting viruses as easily.

SP2 certainly increases security but it's a bit overdue (finally MS implemented a popup blocker in IE but it's years late). For some negative perspective see my blog entry at http://www.intelliot.com/blog/archiv...icrosoft-gunk/
