Computer Fan Noise

I have a Dell Dimension 4600. It seems to be somewhat noisy. It's not bad, but I have another computer which is significantly quieter. I tried SpeedFan, but it doesn't detect any fans for this computer. Anyone have success with SpeedFan?

I believe "The Screen Savers" had something on fan noise a little while ago.

They stressed that the size of the fan doesn't matter, it's usually the tips of the fan that create friction and the noise as well. You probably knew that already, but whatever.

Never heard of that program though.

You could always buy and install a new fan. They sell fans specificly for being quiet. A lot of the times the quieter fans actually move air more efficiently also.

Yeah, the TechTV vault is up at g4techtv.com if you want to search for it there.

Kevin Rose posted a few of the articles on his website during the transition from TechTV to G4TechTV so a few things might be located there.
