Question about 1 character domains...

I have the choice to buy a 1 character domain, and I was wondering if you could help me out...

I can chose 1.xx ($5,000 a year) or w.xx ($2,500 a year), xx being an international domain which I will not reveal until I have made my choice, but is this really worth it?

I've seen 2.cc for sale for 15,000 dollars somewhere, and I'm wondering if these 1 character domains are a good investment in the long run.

Actually, this is one of the most well known forums around (within 10 minutes of me posting this, the topic already has over 20 views). For now, I won't tell anyone about the extension except the fact that it is an international one and that it's two letters long (for example .in or .dk).

In my opinion, they are hardly worth the investment.
The rarity could be a reason why you may covet a single-letter domain name, but the ridiculous price range makes you think twice before investing. A short domain name will not guarantee high traffic but it will be convenient. It all depends on your choice, you have to take the decision yourself.
Just remember, it's a high price to pay, think about it thoroughly and wisely before you come to a conclusion or judgement.
