AdSense on the Forums

Fellow GC Members:

This is just a quick note to let you know about the addition of new AdSense ad blocks. These will help to pay for our hosting fees as well as fund future expansion of the forums. We have one ad link unit below the title of the first post, and one rectangle at the right side of the first post and the last post.

I've seen some forums left-align the rectangular ad blocks, but I felt that would be too confusing because of its close proximity to the poster's content. I also added a separating line so that the ads would be further differentiated.

In compliance with the Program Policies, I am not trying to encourage clicks in any way.

I may experiment with other ad formats later on. You can post feedback in this thread.

I really like the idea of a vertical line that seperates the ads and the content but i really don't like the position of ads below the TITLE.

It makes it look congested.

You said we could post feedback, so here I go: I am, personally, really not in favor of adds in posts. In my opinion it is really destracting and makes me feel I want to go somewhere else that doesn't have so much advertising going on. It's in every first post (topic starter) and than every first and last post. That basically means I'm looking at advertising a lot. In my opinion that is not a positive change, actually it's such a negative change (in my opinion) that I basically want to click (and probably will) that precious red x.

ok so thats the purpose of ads here... so this is really an independent forum.. what i mean is this not really sponsored or affiliated with google.... as the title suggest..

I'm not a big fan of the ad placement....... Couldn't you find a better spot?

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I made four changes today:

(1) No ads for registered users! Only guests will see ads.

(2) New leaderboard added right below the thread title.

(3) Related Threads now appear at the bottom of the page! Take a look and let me know what you think.

(4) Thread titles are now 12 pixels instead of 10.
