The GC to-do list of miscellaneous implementations

Post any useful ideas and suggestions you may have in this topic.
Randy and I have compiled a mediocre list. Some suggested new features:
  • i) A new theme, atleast one that is completely Firefox-compatible and W3C CSS compliant. - Contributed by Randy and I.
ii) New, active moderators. - Contributed by Randy.
iii) Demotion of inactive moderators who never visit the forums. - Contributed by Randy and I.
iv) Encrusting trusted moderators with additional powers, including, but not limited to:
    a) Banning members who spam in a disturbing manner, or which poses as a nuisance for other members.
    b) Universal stickying/moving/locking potential. If possible, they should only be entrusted with 'soft-delete' abilities.
    c) Issuing warnings, after an appropriate modification has been installed on the forums.
^^ - Contributed entirely by me.
    v) As said above, a modification which would allow moderators to warn rebellious members who constantly break rules would be an appreciated and welcome addition. - Contributed by me.

Ah! The Bogey comes again!! randy bidding good bye and members including me requesting him to stay! he along with eric, raises the question of a settled matters- raising the powers of the moderators! Darren indicating his affirmations. Once again the divisive attitudes that surface!
Does any one believe that increasing the powers of moderators, will increase the visitors flow to the board?
If we wish the community to flourish, then the topics should be interesting and there should be healthy exchange of information.
I would suggest that suggestions should be oriented towards greater participation by members. As the moderators and active members provide their time to the Board, to ensure greater participation there should be more compensation in terms of recognition and if possible in real dollar terms.
I am aware that it is not possible for intelliot, to provide cash for the present. But there can be an activity that can increase the flow of cash. One such idea comes to my mind is the use the search activity like ask jeeves. As randy suggested earlier, for what
ever it is worth, we can use those sites which pay for search. Identify those moderators/members who can spare their time and actively enjoy searching and producing the result. This idea need refinement and but something to start with!
I am of the opinion that the existing powers are sufficient to warn. Intelliot wishes to have the powers of banning, as it is his board and the loss or gain is his and there is nothing wrong with that.Let the Bogey of more powers to moderators be buried.
Thinking whether I should become a moderator?

Randy and I discussed this at length yesterday, and I think we are at agreement. Of course I agree that there are always improvements we could make, but who is actually going to do the work? For example, look at the first suggestion. For almost a year I've wanted a new theme, but I don't have the time to work on a new one. You are free to do it, but I assure you, it will be harder than it sounds. This is just one example. I agree with most of the other suggestions as well, but there is simply not enough resources to make that kind of time investment.

Alright, the promotion of moderators is not really too necessary at the moment, but what about the redundant and inactive moderators? No offense intended to anyone, but I don't see why joshg678 and other inactive moderators still hold their positions.

Eric, I agree with you on that aspect. Honestly, that does not take much time and energy on the part of intelliot! hope he will look into it.

Probably, the stress was on the powers to moderators, these right and genuine suggestions get buried!!

We could grab a theme from phpbb.com. Then, we could install the phpbb theme change mod. That way, people could pick what theme they want within their profile. I would be willing to do the work for you Intelliot if you want. Maybe you could send me all the forum files (.php) that you have, and I could install the suggested modifications. I do not need the databases with important credentials, just the ones that are mandatory. Or, I'll just go re-download phpbb and make an example forum just for you, and see how you like it. I'll be working on it soon, if you'd like that is.
