I suggest using the Quote button to quote any posts you are directly replying to.

Intelliot,

Yes, quote is good to refer to one post among many posts given under a thread, but what if the original post changes and there is no quote for the first post.

We generally don't quote the original post if there's just one post in a given thread.

Editting of posts is very useful and necessary in many cases. Removal of the ability to edit posts on GC is a bad idea.

In my opinion the edit button should stay, how many times have we had to say to members in the past:

Please use the edit button, don’t double post when it isn’t necessary, thank you.

*off topic*
Hmm for some reason I just remembered this:

I don't have a problem with double-posting as long as it's reasonable.

One idea for the editing of posts is to limit the length of time you can edit. For example, you can only edit a post for 30 minutes after it's originally posted. After that, only moderators can edit it (you have to PM a moderator your edit request). This is what they do at another large forum (WHT).

In-order to demonstrate the same, I just edited my primary post, please have a look at the first post of mine under this thread and see for yourself if this conversation makes any sense now.

Advise if this should happen under GC.

weird,
wat is connected with michael jackson and disabling editing post o.o
And, I hate editing removed cause I need it if I wrote something wrong.
Maybe time management should be applied like 10 minutes or wat like intelliot said.

L4nc3k,

Exactly, this is what I was trying to communicate?
I hope it would be taken seriously by GC and as Intelliot said it should be restricted, but not only on time basis but on time + post basis i.e. one should be able to edit his/her post only for some time may be 10 minutes provided, there's no post against his/her post. If someone replied to your post even within 1 minute of your posting, one should not be able to edit it.

Yes we know this is what you were trying to communicate, but I haven’t seen anybody change there post like this from one topic to another, and if they did and I noticed it I would kindly ask that member why he done that.

If the edit button was set on a time/post configuration it would be too restrictive what would happen on threads were you need to update the first post many times like contest treads it just wouldn’t work, if we have to go ahead with this I would go with intelliots first option but wouldn’t be as happy until I see some real proof, don’t go creating it now will you.
