I found a neat phpBB add-on:

It looks like just what we need, except that it doesn't mod_rewrite URLs as far as I can tell. That's something I'd really want to add in myself. Also, which of these URLs would be best?

blogs.googlecommunity.com/username
gsearchblog.com/username
