I'm on the fence, naturally if SMF was an option I would have voted since that is my new favorite.

In switching to another board, would all of our posts be lost? Now, you see how little I know about all of this.

If we do switch, I'm paying for it. My gift to you for bringing us together. Meeting all of you and hanging around in here has been a lot of fun. Looking forward to many more conversations about Google and goofing around as well.
I agree with Rod. I like the GC interface and I'm holding my vote. If all the features are retained and its only the software behind it, I would support it.

I like it the way it is. If it did change I would like to still see the GC$ system and the shop.
If there is a security issue, can you not just update the phpBB software to the latest version? (2.0.19 was released a few days ago)

I will spend the rest of my life updating the most unsecure software on this planet called PHPBBB. PHPBB doesn't have a one click button to apply updates like SMF has. PHPBB you have to download, upload, run the upgrade files and hope your mods have been screwed up ecause most likely they were so you end up reapplying all the modifications once again.

You can also download text files which just supply the changes in code. Basically the only new thing with 2.0.19 from 2.0.18 is a limit on the number of times someone can attempt to log in.

It's fine the way it is. Lots more mods (which the user would use) would just clutter the site. Modifications to help admins/moderators run the site easier would be fine, and modifications to increase security would also be good. And the forum is very much alive.
How can you call a site with 12000 members and tens of thousands of posts dead?

Support open-source.
If PHPBB gets 111 votes, donate the cost of vBulletin.
You can buy the big RIAA-loving label BMG's cd for $18, or you can buy an indie label's cd for $10 or less. Of course, there it's a different product, as in different music, whereas phpbb and vbulletin have equivelant functionality, as openoffice.org does to word, the gimp to photoshop, etc.

^^Very true. Besides that, I think phpBB is much better than those other two.

I'm holding my vote as well, and maybe a change is good, well, I'll still have to see the difference between vBulletin and Invision Board, I'm not familiar with both, see you'll hear it from me later =)
