Forum Software Switch?

I like phpBB because it's fast, free, and mods are easy to make and to find. But I realize there may be better stuff out there -- forum software that might better suit our needs. What do you think?

I know SMF is also an option, but I really don't like it very much. Yes, I'm running it elsewhere.

I will switch over to the forum software that gets at least 111 votes (at least 1% of our current members). No time limit.

Great idea Elliot, Thanks for completely ignoring my thread and posting your own three hours later! This type of communication and lack of respect for members is why so many people stay pissed off here

If this was your forum:

Which board would you use? The scheme, colors, layout...details please.

Give links to examples or just tell what would look cool and proper for 'a Google Community'.

Should we add a poll? Please participate.

Thanks Elliot, personally, I like this board, the green color and layout, but I keep hearing that it isn't safe from past conversations here. I prefer this one-of-a kind look and feel of the Google Community. The GC$ system and shop are great, too!

In switching to another board, would all of our posts be lost? Now, you see how little I know about all of this.

If we do switch, I'm paying for it. My gift to you for bringing us together. Meeting all of you and hanging around in here has been a lot of fun. Looking forward to many more conversations about Google and goofing around as well.

Personally, I don't see any pressing need for change; but I'd be interested to see what alternatives people suggest.
Most important, as far as I'm concerned, is that there's no major disruption, and we don't lose anything we already have- like the shop and GC$.

I'd only like to see change to address a specific need- like security, or really useful features; not just going for a few bell and whistles, and something flashier.

It's fine the way it is, but if you do change the forum software, install MyBB.

I, for one, have already been converted to the cult of MyBB, but I don't mind vBulletin or Invision. Holding my vote for now.

Mondine's right. Posts, threads, members, sections all of those are kept. It's just the software that's different.

Do either of you have an example of MyBB that we could have a look at for reference?

I too am holding my vote for now but would probably go with invision but if we do please can we have your word Rod that you won’t donate anymore money, you’ve done enough all ready for this community and that's exactly why I send you that card and letter in the post to express my gratitude towards everything you’ve done, I hope others van agree with me that you’ve done enough and should have to keep paying anymore, to me or to anybody else for that matter even if you do like donating to help others do what you can not!

Ah man, it's my way of saying thanks for the hard work, along with the learning and social aspects we enjoy. Many young people are doing drugs, running the streets, getting into trouble and whatever... you guys are doing something constructive, so it's a positive motivational influence for you all. I'll never meet any of you face to face and surely I do things for friends in real-time. So, just be cool, OK.

MyBB looks a bit old to me, IMO.
I'm holding my vote as well, and maybe a change is good, well, I'll still have to see the difference between vBulletin and Invision Board, I'm not familiar with both, see you'll hear it from me later =)

Well, I haven't looked through all the archives, but I've not yet seen a poll that got 111 votes (let alone for one choice), so I think there'll be plenty of time to mull it over.
