I prefer AMD. Not really that sure of the differences, but I think most people think AMD is better.

I also prefer AMD, for several reasons. One, they tend to run a bit cooler; two, you get more bang for your buck in terms of speed; and three, I like the fact that they aren't trying to increase the clock speed to infinity (like Intel), but are trying to make chips more efficient. Bottom line? You can buy an AMD for less than Intel and have a cooler chip that will process roughly the same amount of data per cycle, or pay the same and have more speed, while still being pretty easy to keep cool.

All right...I'm going to try and lay this out for you. Trucido was mostly right but here it is.....brbrAMD's tend to run a little bit cooler than the Pentiums. This is a more recent development becuase the AMD used to be hotter. AMD's can be better because they support 64 bit processing. Which is only a bonus if you have windows xp X64 bit edition. Or if you get Windows Vista. Pentium 4's have the MMX instruction set which can process some things faster with less errors. However over all for right now AMD is better. Pentium is soon coming out with a processor that will blow AMD away...but we'll see.br

AMD and Intel's latest chips are actually pretty close in performance (not specs), but a couple of the reviews I read said that the Intels ran so hot, they were fried in a matter of minutes, and the testers had to get new ones. d'oh.

Intel, if it wasn't for the deal that gave AMD unlimited usage of Intel Patents and the company that AMD bought wich was a spinoff of Intel (with wich they aquired the licenses for many processes), AMD would be dead. Of course the specs of the Intel are far over AMD's.

I personaly use a Pentium in my desktop and an AMD in my laptop for the simple reason that Pentiums have heat problems.
