Vista problems

Having installed Vista Beta in my laptop, I cannot now remove it and go back to Windows XP. Vista sucks.

Can anybody help me? Microroft support does not answer my emails.

Didn't you create a system recovery point before installing Vista? I think Microsoft recommends it.

Thank you for your reply. No, sir, Microsoft does not recommend a restore point. It does recommend yourename Windows to Windows.old. I did this. This is still in my computer but I cannot access it.

In any case, Vista does not show me where there is a restore point. It also does not let me conmnect with the internet so I can give feedback. From another computer, my emails to Microsoft are ignored.

So I am stuck with all my apps and programs inaccessible somewhere in my computer.

Why not just rename the old Windows back to Windows and rename Vista, WindowsNew? Or you could try changing boot.ini [if that does anything].

I'm not sure.

Or you could download Linux.

You can try using your Windows XP setup disc to do a "repair" install on Windows.old.

Vista is beta software. Read the terms of service and agreements before using it. Microsoft does warn that you can't go back and you shouldn't use this on a production system.

I installed it on my laptop in a dual-boot configuration with Windows XP Home, on a separate partition. It works great. For resizing NTFS partitions, try GParted. It's much, much better than the PartitionMagic trash I used to use.

Vista problems

Thank you all for your replies and help. I haven't tried any of your suggestions yet because I am stuck now trying to get a restore point. The only ones I find are points since I inserted the Vista OS, nothing earlier. Mylaptop is stuck saying "preparing to shut down" for the past 15 minutes. I don't know how long to wait before I lose patience and turn it off.

What a bummer, but it is comoforting to know that there are people out there willing to help. I am grateful. I will keep in touch after this infernal laptop decides what to do next.

Why don't you just get a professional to do it, in case of a worst-case scenario.? It'll cost you some money, though.
Oh, and thanks for callin me "sir".

Get a copy of ERD Commander and use that to browse your file system.
ERD commander will boot you up into a GUI interface...(theres others if
you prefer text) but you can then rename your old windows file so that
you can boot up into the old windows xp.

I was wondering when these were going to start to come in.
I just remember thinking that, when I looked at the first beta download disclaimers being all
voice-of-doom about there being no way to roll back to a previous OS without a re-install.

It would have been enough to scare me off.
