What do you think about this pc?

Ok I have'nt been around here for a will due to my pc motherboard breaking down on me.

So I'ts time to buy a new one plus a new proccesor as my P3 800 mhz was getting on a bit even tough that still works fine and as I've been thinging for a will now on upgrading now seems a good time to do so so here is the computer I'm building tell me what you think please.

All price in pounds include VAT/TAX

Pentium 4 550 3.4Ghz (Socket775) £188.98
Asus P5AD2 Premium 925X chipset (Socket 775) £168.98
Kingston 1GB RAM PC2-4300 DDR2 £178.98
Gaming case 400W - Silver (3 fans) £38.98
Connect 3D Radeon X800XT 256MB PCI-E £307.99

delivery (13.520Kg) £5.11

Total: £892.89/$1,644.25/1,284.03 €

I already have a monitor and Hardrives/CD drives from my old computer so that lowers the cost a bit.

Being a student this is all I can afford really pushing the budget, even tough I would prefer a 3.6 Ghz than a 3.4 Ghz processor however I have gone for a Ati Radeon X800XT 256mb instead of a X600XT that would cost me half the amount as the X800XT.

Now I'ts your time to tell me what you think, all comments welcome thank you.

Nice...are computers that expensive over in the UK...woo...It's less here in Canada..
Is your existing monitor LCD?
And BTW, do you REALLY need the 1 GB RAM? Most people can do with 256-512 MB of RAM ... You can lower your costs in that sector...
Are Nvidia chips more expensive or cheaper than Radeons? If they are cheaper, I definately recommend getting a Nvidia card, they're loads better...
The processor clockspeed is nice ...
The motherboard is okay but over-priced in my opinion...
But anyways, if you haven't bought it yet, you should think it over many times...you can be happier paying less as you may not need all that RAM...or are you buying it to brag with GameFAQs losers?

Why Intel and not AMD? You'll save money in the processor that could be invested in the graphics card.
I've been using AMD for a long time. The only problem was the K6 series (it was awful), and many people thing they are still the same. No. AMD makes excellent processors, and they cost less than the equivalent ones from Intel.

Hi eric

No my old monitor is a CRT and Ill have to keep it until I earn some more money.

1 Gb of ram yes your right maybe I should think more, maybe 4 GB.Just kidding I'll have a think of this I can always upgrade later.

I to will have to think about the graphics card as they take a big junk of money up in my wallet.

Clad you like the clock speed, that can stay that way then.

Your right the motherboard is very expensive I supose thats due to it being very new plus there are not a lot of 925X chipset (Socket 775) motherboards around or is that just me.

And for the last thing no Im not buying it to brag with GameFAQs losers. Ha ha ha.

I'm just thinking ahead to new 3D games that will be coming out in the future.

Ohhh how despretly I want to play Half-Life 2.

Thank you eric for your comments.

Hi antioco2003

I supose I chose intel becuase I've never had a AMD proccesor, I supose I could chose AMD it's something to think about, even tough above I replied to eric "Clad you like the clock speed, that can stay that way then." that's just the clock speed not the proccesor.

Mmmm I'll be doind a lot of thinking tonight.

Thank you antioco2003 for your comments.

Next please.

You should really keep 1Gb of ram. That is what I have and I dont know what I would do without it. My other computer and my dad's computer have 512MB and they are fine for the day to day use but if you want to play games, 1GB is the way to go. But if you do get 1GB get 2 512MB. It saves money.

The Ram module I have chosen at the moment is the:

Kingston 1GB 240Pin DIMM PC2-4300 Non-ECC DDR2

This being just one module and not 2 x 512Mb module

But I think the price is good at £178.98 as some 1Gb ram modules cost a lot more. But I could be wrong so I'll look into the price buying them sepratly.

Thank you.

768 MB RAM wouldn't hurt, now would it? :P
I have personally never used an AMD processor but according to what others say, AMD supposedly makes processors with better performance whereas Intel markets the fastest processors first...whether they are stable or not, like the Prescott series :P...Its your choice really...
Anyways, how long are you going to withstand the radiation? :P... LCD is the way to go now ...You can get one of the cheaper one from AOC...

No way. Intel is way better. But it depends on which kind of Intel you get. For example take my processor Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHZ Hyper Threading. I can run so many programs on my computer where on my dads computer (AMD Athlon XP 3200+) cant because it starts to freeze up and go slow when I run Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and the camera system software(survelliance system).

What kind of refrigeration does your dad's computer have? For example, if I my car is a Ferrari and I use the wheels of a van, I have many problems when I'm out on the road...
And what about its motherboard? Now VIA is improving again, but their last products with their last chipsets were pure shit. And the same processor with a different chipset is a different world.
So compare motherboards, refrigeration and chipsets between your computer and your dad's...
