Invisible folder(a newer way)

To make an invisible folder in windows...

First create a new folder.

Then rename it to blank by holding ALT+0160 ...the numbers 0160 should be from the numpad.

After renaming it to blank, right-click over it and go to properties -> change icon.

Select a blank icon there and apply.

Now you have created your invisible folder. It's there but you can't see it. You can put whatever you want in it

I'd say you were more camouflaging it than making it invisible.

This looks interesting, but what if you own a laptop?
Did you find a way to do it on a laptop?
It would be helpful if there was a way

On a laptop you can use Character Map (start->Accessories->System Tools->Character Map).
in character map make sure that font Arial is selected, double click the empty character that is on the 5th row after z, {, |, } and ~. Then you will be able to copy it using the 'Copy' button and then paste it as the name of the folder

That's a very useful tip.
I think that it is better than hiding folders because after hiding folders you can unhide them very easily through folder options.
This way even if someone enables "show hidden folders" still the folder will stay hidden.
The only problem will come when someone selects all the folders through the "select all" option.

I think I can use both 2 means to hide my folder security.

Thanks for new tip.

Nice idea but if you really want to make sure that something isn't found then you need to encrypt it. If it isn't worth encrypting then I doubt it is worth hiding.

EDIT: I forgot to mention TrueCrypt a free encryption program.
