what is the difference between dhcp and static ? i mean when it comes to networking, i dont really know what they are for . can please someone help me on this? thanks and have a nice day to you all.

DHCP, just means that your computer will just get it's IP address (and Subnet Mask and Default Gateway) from a DHCP server (generally your router or cable/dsl modem) -- This simplifies networking by automatically managing the network address and settings.
Static is when you set the IP Address, etc. manually. This is generally not needed for the average home user. |
