What to buy for your buck
I have been wanting to buy a computer for a couple months but I can't decide if I should get a laptop or a desktop computer. I would like to have a laptop but they cost so much more than desktops computers. Does anyone know good laptops that aren't to expensive?

Hey Fun4free, they have quite a few promotions going on. Here's just an example. Just do a query using Google with 'promotion codes' and 'coupons'. My sister was looking for a Dell laptop for work and I was able to find her a deal that saved her $500 with a promo key. She ended up with a $1400 laptop for $900 before tax with free shipping included. Plus, they doubled her memory! Look around, there's is some really goods deals out there. They usually last only a few days or so, but you can always take advantage of the next round of opportunities.
Good luck. |

I personally don't think you can find a 'cheap laptop' easily nowadays. You can get older models, but in most cases, they won't be in "mint condition".
Check out e-bay for some great deals. Other than that, you always have Geekerati's option. But I think you're looking for something cheaper and also cost-efficient at that too. You'll have to invest quite a healthy sum of money if you expect to proudly possess a high-end laptop front-end. |

Unfortunately you're right, it's very difficult to find an inexpensive laptop these days. eBay is good start for sure. When I was scouring the internet looking for my Sisters deal, I noticed that several people had purchased the same laptop and was already turning them over at the auction. These folks are pros with tons of flow! A few of them were college students though, spending daddies money wisely to probably pay for their BMW insurance, gas and SAE fraternity dues. Lol, I wish I could call my folks and say, 'hey, I need about $10,000 or $15,000 for a couple of months! I'm sorry for generalizing a bit here, but some people have it much easier than others with a built-in network from birth. Stay in school, get an education or suffer til death! Trust me on this one!

just my opinion, but i think a desktop is a MUCH better investment. Yeah, you could say that laptops are portable, but they cost much more than a desktop with the same features. Also, if you get the right case and parts, a desktop is actually more portable than you may think. Also, desktops are SO easy to upgrade, where as laptops have less parts and are just confusing nonetheless.
But the decision is yours. Im just giving you some input of my own. |

i'd have to agree w hockey boy and say that desktops are the most customizable and coolest out of the two. If it was me, and i HAD to get a laptop, then i would get either an alienware (for a very nice, cool lookin, fast laptop), or a dell, because of their warranty and affordability. If you want a head start on a a wicked, CHEAP, desktop then got to either pricewatch.com, computergeeks.com, or newegg.com. All of those sites have the most affordable parts on the market, and ship 'em right to ur door. I just built a pentium 3.2 for $400. i hope that gives you an idea of what to do.
