Site hijacked - google redirects to 'internal server error'
Hi there, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with this problem I discovered recently.
My website has been hijacked a few times over the past few weeks. It began with someone emailing me to let me know his virus scanner picked up a malware file 'check.js' in one of my subdirectories. I looked on my server space and was shocked to find a folder 'reba' with files, including the 'check.js' file. I had not put these files on my server space. I deleted the offending files and contacted my host server but they basically said they were not responsible and told me not to share my login particulars with anyone (duh). When I googled my site and clicked on the resulting link, I was not taken to my site but was taken to what looked like a blog site but was basically an advertising site. I've found a few sites dealing with this malware. It has happened again two times and I suspect some of my code was making my server space vulnerable (I knew better but was too lazy to do it properly, shame on me). I have since tightened the code and deleted the files again and so far so good. However, I now notice that when someone googles my site and clicks on the resulting link, they now get the following error: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, support@hostservername.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. I contacted my host server again and they said it's not their problem and redirected me here to this forum. I downloaded my entire site to my laptop and ran Search&Destroy on all files but haven't found any further offending files. It would appear that the google link is trying to access the check.js file that I deleted. So I don't know where to go from here. It's driving me crazy that anyone trying to reach my site through google is being greeted with the error message and won't think to try to reload the page. Has anyone encountered this problem before and if so how did you fix it and prevent it from happening again. Thanks in advance! |
