Ransomware

Here's another article I was reading today, it's about Hard disk space being kidnapped until a ransom is paid, please tell me your opinions on this and how concerned you are and do you feel it may just happen to you.

First of all, I use linux, so I feel I am pretty safe, plus I have firewalls (hardware and software) and all that jazz.

Why not back up the encrypted drive, have it unencrypted by security professionals (they can do that, right?) and then try to prosecute whoever did it.

Besides, if the company makes backups (as all companies should) then they won't have a problem. Unfortunately, too many people don't do backups. I guess this would be a hard lesson learned.

As long as I make regular backups, I'm alright!

No one can stop me from reformatting!

Ummm...Darren, the hackers don't seal off hard disk space, they encrypt certain files within a virtual disk drive, causing the operating system to deny any kind of access of the file to the operator.
There's a big difference.
