Networking question

Will a wireless network work on two home computers where one has Win98 and one has WinXP? If so, which one should be hooked up directly to service, or does it even matter?

Thank ahead of time! I'm rather new to networking and I'll probably need more help in the near future. I got a new computer last night but I want to keep my old dinosaur going yet too.

mondine is an unknown quantity at this point
I can't really help that much with your particular question, but I thought I'd say congratulations on your escape from the Stone Age of computing.

In the meantime, one of the best (and best-recommended) sites I've seen for how-to's and tutorials on the subject is http://www.practicallynetworked.com/
You should be able to get a lot of good practical information there.

I dont think the computors have to be on the same operating system.. we have 5 computers all on the same network. all of them are on different operating systems, Windows xp, windows xp pro, windows xp home...

Xp is Xp. But, it doesn't really mater on the OS. Easiest way is get a router and just plug the systems into the router.

I second Lupine. And if you are trying to go wireless, just go get a Linksys Router, connect the XP machine wirelessly and use a straight-through cable for the 98 machine. If you have any questions let me know.

Hey, alright! You're the guy to ask then. I finally got my two new computers connected on the Internet. Both computers have printers connected to them. My secondary computer has no problem sending a print job to the main computer's printer. However, I cannot send a print job to the secondary computer's printer. They both show that they are sharing. Is this something that can be corrected?

Thank you for your assistance.

-Ann

Yah it doesn't matter the OS that your using. However theres nothing wrong with Windows 98. It was actually Microsofts most stable Operating System ever.....
