Help me!
Ok, so yes I'm a retard for buying an HP. I have installed every single peice of protection I can find. Spyware,Norton Antivirus/Firewall, Wizard(buddies Program) and I cannot stop the viruses!!!!!!
I swear every hacker from here to bangkok has my IP address. I feel like a friggin target, AND I'M NOT USE TO THAT! If anyone has any knowledge of better programs, please let me know. FYI: I don't go into unsafe websites except for this one. All other's are secured 128 bit, banking, weaponry sites, and etc. But there are a few things that I do and get email about on my pc that no one should really know about. I understand that no matter what I do a hacker can probably break it, but I'd rather make it tougher on them. |

STEP 1: Make sure your Windows Firewall is enabled. Open your Control Panel and (in standard view) double click Windows Firewall. Make sure that ON is selected and click OK.
STEP 2: Install and use a safe web browser like Mozilla Firefox. Limit use of Internet Explorer whenever possible. STEP 3: Scan your system for malware with the following programs and remove all of the positive spyware identities:Make sure to update the spyware definitions too! STEP 4: Run a disk defragmentation. Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter. These steps will take a while to complete - but its worth it. After completing these 4 steps, I guarantee your system will run much more quickly and be much more effecient. Let me know if you're still having problems after completing these steps. |

Actual infections. My pc is running as slow as it's ever (granted it is an HP), but it never ran this slow before. That and i've watched my norton firewall just disengage for no reason. I checked with Norton IT and they ran some test and said my norton was fine, it was my hp. I spoke with HP geek squad, they said that as long as I kept upgrading my spyware i'd be fine....Been doing that every time I get one and it hasn't done crap.

GroundPounderUSMC, the fact that it's a HP has nothing to do with it, those are fine machines.
Anyway...what Randy Johnston advices is very good, however he fails to mention that it is very hard to truely clean infected system out of all lefotwer trash. Probably less time consuming would be totally clean reinstall and the following advices about firewall and safe internet browser (other options, besides Firefox, include Seamonkey and Opera). Which doesn't mean it isn't worth to try - it's not just if after steps suggested by Randy there's still something wrong. Also, it's good to use good antivirus software, and Norton isn't it. I'd suggest looking at AVG, Avast (yes, both free if you can believe it) or, especially recommended by me, NOD32. They don't consume computer resources much, and NOD32 is also better at detection. You could also consider trying Linux...or remembering that under Windows pr0n sites are major source of infections (nevermind if you go there or not - you wouldn't say that on this forum probably anyway) |

A couple of other thoughts. Sometimes, an infection could compromise any local anti-virus; it's a good idea to double-check with one of the free online scans like Housecall.
Another good preventative measure is SpywareBlaster, a freeware program that 'immunizes' your system against a wide range of common web-pests. As far as system speed goes, bloatware programs like Norton are often one of the worst offenders. You would probably notice a difference with a a couple of smaller, dedicated programs for A/V and firewall. 'Security suites' are resource hogs. |

And more suggestion when it comes to software (weird I have forgot about it...): as weird as it might sound, but what Microsoft has is also very good, namely Windows Defender. It's very light on system resources and among the best when it comes to effectivnes.

I would suggest that you get zone alarm pro cause it has a personal fire wall, or alternatively, turn on windows firewall. If that doesnt work, try downloading simialar programs. i have zone alarm and its very good. also, if you have a program that runs on a psp program, eg winmx, get rid of it.

I suggest that you dont use windows firewall, use zone alarm, its a very good firewall. Get Bit Defender anti-virus. Dont Internet Explorer, it is the most vanurable browser for hijacking and viruses, trojans, etc. Use Firefox, it is the most safest browser and the best by opinion. Virus makers dont tend to attack any other software than Microsoft products.
