A Death In The Family....

[b]On June 6th 2006, one of my Marines, PFC Michael Richards, was killed by an IED outside of Ar-Rutbar. PFC Richards has 2 young girls and a wife. He died at 19 years old. Honor grad in bootcamp, earned 3 marksman medals throughout his training. He was assigned to my unit (3rd Batallion 3rd Marines) in May of 2005. He was an outstanding Marine, and from what I saw an outstanding family man. Throughout the long times we spent in Iraq, I only ever heard him complain once. /[b]
[b]/[b]
[b]For those of you who pray for our troops, please put PFC Richards family in your prayer tonight. /[b]
[b]/[b]
[b]From the report given to me, with a statement from one of my corporals, he made an attempt (bloody and battered) to assist the Corpsman(medic) in tending to the only slightly injured marines./[b]
[b]/[b]
[b]He lived like a man, and died like a hero. Being that he volunteered for the mission, he will be recieving a medal of Valor. The 9th highest medal given to Marines. A medal you only get for relieving yourself of your duties to save a fellow combatant. I will personally be tacking this medal upon his chest at his funeral, when he returns home. /[b]
[b]/[b]
[b]Those of you who are anti-war, anti-military, or don't care either way. I understand that what we are doing in that country seems like an abomination, but you have to realize that it is the government sending us to do this. PFC Richard's little girls will be growing up fatherless./[b]
[b]/[b]
[b]Oorah to the spirit, cheers to the fallen, Semper Fi, do or die./[b]
[b]/[b]
[b]Never forgotten./[b]

[b]Sgt. Shawn Matthews/[b]
[b]3rd BTN 3rd Marines/[b]

That's really too bad to hear. What all these anti-war people don't understand is that this kind of thing goes on every day. He chose to do it...don't dis-honor his choice, his decision to fight for you.

My sincerest condolences to you for the death of your comrade. Yes, I am a peacenik, and against wars, but I still admire andhonor our troops who do their duty, and sometimes, give their lives. My nephew is considering going into the Service, and while I might not agree, I have nothing but the utmost respect for his choice. My prayers are with all of the men and women who serve our country, and peacenik though I am, I thank all of you for your courage and sacrifice!

Well thank you, Anita. It's good to hear a intelligent person who is against what we do, speak on our side for a change.

You are not alone ground pounder! There are many of us who don't aprove with any mititary power of any goverment in another country, but that will never take away the deep respect we have for those who go out and fight for what they belive is right and in the end give their life for that belief! The families of those soldiers lost are in my prayers that god will give them the strenght to go on and be proud of their familymember who gave the ultimate sacrifice to their country! May god be with all of you who are still fighting and bring you home safe!
