Help me: should library hours be increased in schools?

Help me on this: should library hours be increased in schools? You see, we've got a debate coming up. Our team is going to speak for the topic, but you can list negative points as well, since I suppose I'd better know what the opposition's likely to say. I need all the points I can get. Try to think beyond the obvious as well, if you can. It'll help a lot.

Being a bookworm, I would have to say yes to library hours being extended. It would afford a student more time for study and relaxation. This would be especially helpful if there is no public library in your town, or if the public library is quite a distance from a student's home or school. The library would be a salvation for students who would otherwisehave nothig to do but roam the streets after school.

Positive. I didn't mention it before because even negative points would have been fine, as knowing what the opposition's likely to say is also an advantage.

Thanks for those points, Anita.

yeah, definitely should be extended. Theres always the fact that people live far away, then theres also the fact that it alows more people to access computers if they dont have any, and it also comopensates for people who work late.

Isn't the school library open from when the school opens until the school closes? [e.g. ~7am - ~7pm]

'For':
Might allow more people to read.
Give people somewhere/something to go/do.
Chance to relax.
Large selection of books.
Books the school has deemed beneficial to their pupil's education.

'Against':
People could borrow a book from it and take it home; why spend extra money to keep the library open.

Not really. At least not here. You can, of course, borrow books from the library any time, but the topic is different. Here, we have one period of library per week. So the topic is about whether that should be increased to more than one or whether it should stay the same.

Thanks for the points, Andrew and Dauodwa.

For-
i can go to the library after a night out of heavy drinking and partying. i need a place to crash and those couches are the bomb
