Huygens Probe Wakes, Begins Final Descent to Titan

Jan. 14 (Bloomberg) -- The European Space Agency's Huygens probe woke and entered the atmosphere of Saturn's largest moon, Titan, with six instruments examining the physical, chemical and electrical properties of the surroundings.

NASA's Cassini spacecraft, which has been orbiting the solar system's second-largest planet since June, released the wok- shaped probe on Dec. 24. A timer woke the probe early today, and the first signals were received just after 11:30 a.m. German time, ESA spokesman Franco Bonacina said in a phone interview from the agency's Space Operations Center in Darmstadt, Germany.

I hope they find something significant there...I'm sure they will...even if they don't, the sheer fact that it actually reached Saturn is also a nice achievement.
