Need some guidance (Regarding owning a forum)

Hello all,

I am very much interested in making my own forum. A place where designers can talk and have fun. I don't know any programming, coding, database... or that kind of stuff so can I have my own forum?

If I purchase a domain and a hosting package and install the vbulletin files on my server then my forum will be ready to go?

I am kinda dumb in this issue so please help me and let me know if I can do it. Or if anyone from you can help me with the installations

I know my forum may not get popular as other forums are but I just want to give it a try

I want to design my forum something like designerstalk.com and blindnerd.net they are really coool designs. I think I have to do it by converting a photoshop template into a html file.

If I just install the files on my server, the database and everything will be set up automatically?

if your best friend has one,, why dont you ask him how to do it?

The tedious part is the promotion. Some forum owner pay members for their posts just to kick the forum into action.

Yes I know the promotion is really difficult but I will manage it... as far as money is concerned I am NOT going to pay anyone at all. I will do everything on my own and members will come and enjoy, I am pretty sure about it

you have to be responsible with owning a site...manage it, promote it, maintain it...after you create it you have to do something for your forum be known and so people will sign up as if your forum only have a few members that will not be good...

Yeah, I also agree with you. Natural growth of forum members is best. At least, you know that they are really interested about the topics in your forum because they register by their own will and not for the intention of directly making money from posts.

But still, I have a friend who has a forum (it's new too) who pays per posts and it goes ok as well.

Actually, It really depends on the forum owner in general. If you are really serious in promoting your forum, I'm sure it will grow naturally and become as large as other forums today.
