MSN vs. Google

Is New MSN Search More Precise? Just Ask Google

Quote:
[b]MSN finally unleashed its new search technology to the world on Monday. The official announcement coming from Bill Gates introduced the New MSN Search engine, ending with a personal invitation to visit www.msn.com and “type in your question.”

Here at WebAdvantage.net, we consider ourselves to be veteran internet searchers, often able to easily find the information we’re after. Considering we spend all day every day online, we should be. Even so, we rarely venture to type search queries in the form of questions on search engines, except for the handful of times we visit AskJeeves.

Here’s what we learned from our afternoon of follies.
Quote:
1. If you’re looking for encyclopedia-type answers to questions like “What is a marsupial?” ask MSN Search (or visit encyclopedia.com or Britannica.com)

2. If you’re looking for a black and white photo of daisies, use MSN Search because the image search is nicely arranged and you can filter results by size as well as by color or black and white.

3. If you’re looking for results “near me,” stick with Google’s automatically localized results by including the city and state in your query.

4. If you’re looking for the most precise answer, perhaps you should stick with Google (at least for now).

Stuff2Do and Dude66, I've got a question for you: You both stated that MSN search "sucks". Could you please explain to me why you feel that msn search is not good? The discussion becomes much more interesting when you actually formulate and explain your opinion. So, could you take the time to explain your opinion to me and the rest of the community?

The article was very interesting, Geekerati. Thanks for sharing.

The thing I noticed most from the article was that with MSN search engine you can filter the results by size as well as by color or black and white. And I have to admit that is rather nice to see. Google can learn something for that.

Even though I'm not going to MSN search (me loves Google) I do find the filter option on photo's really good. So I wouldn't want to label MSN search as bad, I personally think it has potential.

I've read the whole article and it was very informative. The MSN Search has a lot of catching up to do, I think it's features are still very primitive...just look at one of their examples about the mass of the Earth. The image search is pretty smooth though , though they haven't indexed and cached as many images as Google yet . I'm as much of a Microsoft fanatic as I am a Google fanatic, so I'll keep watch on MSN search ..

my biggest problem with MSN search is not just that it ¨sucks¨, because in all reality it probably won´t. It is that, once again, Microsoft has demonstrated a complete inability to think. I remember looking at the beta site several months ago, noticing that it was an *EXACT* replica of Google. So, I don´t appreciate nor do I utilize a clone of something great. So, in closing, MS needs to die. A lot.

The reason we don't like Microsoft as much is because they can't face that Google is catching up, and are literally trying to copy not just them, but EVERYONE! They bought Giant Anti-Spyware to compete against Adaware and such, they've put in primitive antivirus into their Operating Systems (XP and Longhorn) and now they're trying to conquer the search engine. It just seems that they want to shut every other corporation down, which is why they look like antagonists to us (me, anyway)
