Can we become Technology?

Hey everyone!

I've been reading up on technology lately, and how it will affect us in the future. Some scientists say that humans and machines will eventually become the same - that machines will develop intelligence like ours so it will be hard to tell who's a human and who's a machine, and that us humans will import so many artificial augmentations (like importing neurons into our brains to make us smarter) that we will essentially be like robots. In fact, some scientists right now that are reverse-engineering the brain (finding out how it works) are saying that one day we could even upload our memories, thoughts, and even entire personalities onto a computer.

A lot of people argue that both of these scenarios are impossible - humans are special and unique, and posses something else that is impossible to reproduce in a machine, and that augmenting our bodies artificially is naturally and morally wrong.

What I want to ask you is: with the amount of technology we depend on today (think of how addicted people can get to blackberries, or cell phones, or msn, or even this forum!), do you think this scenario is such a long shot? What do you think about machines and humans becoming the same? Scared? Excited?

My feeling tells me that it's NOT going to happen soon, because it's far away from reality. It's a wide topic and I think eventually people will destroy themselves by playing Gods...everything points to that!

I think what you mean about man and machines are becoming humanoid.

I know for the fact that it will happen but in the future I guess not right now. Because right now robotics are helping us to improve the disabled community. Right now robotics is used mainly for medical reasons such as replacing the broken leg or broken arm into a robotic arm (its like in the StarWars ep. VI movie). But in wars robots are also used to replace soldiers into the battle field. In the industries robots are also used to mass produced certain things. For example car makers they used robotic arm to move fast into production line.

But giant robots are still in a bit of a process and still don't have a hi-technology resources to do that. Walking humanoid is also possible but not giant humanoid. (darn I've been watching too much sci-fi movies).

We have the idea that it might happen, soon, but i'm afraid they cannot do it perfectly co's there's still be the difference.Humans have the feelings or emotions, however they cannot do that to humanoid for it was a machine generated only by humans it still depends on human intelligence...IMO

yep robots don't have the necessary emotions like we do and those emotions are all very much complicated. Depends on the mood swing of a human being. I think that that's the only thing that we cannot copy (the emotions of human being). Maybe in the 31st Century that were gonna see all of these things that we imagine but I guess that we are not gonna be there after all.

I red the articles regarding the "Clone Horse". I'm afraid it might happen to us someday. That we can be clone also, in that case clone human shared the same feelings, gesture even the attitude...

Interesting.
How do they 'reverse-engineer a brain'?
here's an article I found in the net about it-> http://www.technologyreview.com/article/17111/
