When focus is on the page, but not in any text input area, then by hitting the '/' key you will see a message at the bottom of the window that says: "Starting -- find as you type".

Type a word or phrase that you would like to find, and the browser will jump to the next place in the document that matches.

This is similar, but easier and better IMHO than doing a Ctrl-F find, especially since I am used to using vi which uses the same keystroke sequence to implement document search.

Unlike vi, you can not use '?' to search backwards, and merely doing the '/' again does not find the next occurance fo the phrase. For that you still have to type Ctrl-G. Maybe in future releases, more vi-like navigation will be available to those of us who appreciate it.

I am using Firefox 0.8 .
and it worked!!

Vim is my favorite editor! I wonder if there's an extension available to give more vi-like functionality. I'd much rather scroll around with h, j, k, and l than use my arrow keys, for example.
