A twist on the GoogleOS speculation
The rumor mill on the Internet has been recently working overtime speculating Google's intention of launching their own version of desktop OS. From the recent announcement of "Google Pack" which includes Google Talk, Google Desktop, the Mozilla Firefox Web browser, the Trillian instant-messenger program, RealPlayer, and the Picasa photo-management tool, it seems logical that a Google OS would be the next step for the company. While there are much debate on whether Google OS can emerge as the credible replacement of Windows, Google itself may have set its sight beyond the Window's desktop computing model.

I have said it once and I will say it again, I would love for Google to come out with an OS. I know that it would be simple, not resource intensive, and simply beautiful. It will be something that advanced users can tweak with and build a better system, and still be something that the everyday home user will appreciate and be able to use with little or no issues. Much like Mozilla's Firefox. The possibilities are endless. I for one will be one of the first to migrate to the new os if and when it is released.

And yet, every single program you will need to use will have to be ported over to this new OS unless Google decides to pay licensing fees for Windows so you can run Widnows apps. In which case you would end up paying for the OS or have ads all over your system so Google doesn't get the short end of the stick. That is if you want to use your Windows apps. If Google really wanted to make an OS they would base it on some sort of UNIX flavor and not just a remake of Windows and pay licensing fees.
Also, Google needs to get some graphic designer of a sort because I wouldn't want my OS to look like a few lines and some text. It needs to look nice and not blan. |

Of course, Google is, more or less, conquering various fields in
Desktop Management, one by one. Its recent outcome with Picasa, is one of the greatest landmark in organizing the picures in ur PC. So what I'm concluding is, Google must take a venture for releasing an OS, with its trademark speed, and simple design. That must not aim at proffessionals, rather focus on fun-users, without breaking its head on management.br These days OSs mainly concentrates on managing a big bulk of files. Google's version must be totally different from this. Most of the teens like me are awaiting for such a Hurray! product. If Google releases an OS, probably I'll be the first person to shift my platform.br |
