Military Personnel

This is just a post for all my fellow military personnel.
My name is Shawn Matthews, Corporal United States Marine Corps. 0300 Mobile Infantry Gunner.

Currently based in Diyala Province Iraq. Been in this god awful place for almost 2 years now. Anyone else out there active or reserve or hell even former, give me a shout. Oorah!

It's hot and humid throught the day, freezing and dry at night. Smoking on base is a death wish (if a sniper sees your cig cherry you've had it) People keep coming in and out of medical. My unit has lost 3 guys, haven't had a mission in over a month, been here almost 2 years, can't go home as long as this base stays under code delta(under attack) all in all.....I LOVE EVERY SECOND OF IT! You've seen the commercials for the Marine corps. They show the Marine climbing the mountain and after he completes this task he switches to his class AAA's and sword salutes.....yea, they totally dramatized that crap. lol. No, but I really love it. The people i've encountered, the experience, I now believe in God. You'd have to after seeing some of the feets that we've seen.

Yea, when I was in boot, I always skipped the prayer and my DI's would tell me " wait til you get in country recruit, that first 7.62 that flies over your head, you'll hit your knees and confess sins you haven't even committed yet." Boy, I should've listen a little closer. hahaha
