gmail filter "NOT from?"
Hey everyone, I was wondering if it was possible to setup kind of like ablack list of email addresses. I would like to set up a filter to forward all emails that are NOT from certain addresses, to another address. In other words, the filter would work someting like:
if NOT from: (123@yahoo.com OR mymail@mymail.com OR anything@anymail.com) forward to: forwardaddress@gmail.com Understand? Anyone know how to do this? Oh, and I don't want to just filter them into the trash, I know I could do that, but I have my emails forwarded to my work address, and I don't want alot of this junk mail getting forwarded to my work address. Thanks. |

I just did a quick test in my account, and the filter seems to work for 'from' addresses, if you just enter it it in the space that says "Has the words".
You could try a test along these lines (it does allow you to test the filter on your account contents, before applying). |

Well, that's what I had going currently, and I thought it was working. What I was doing was putting my black list addresses in the "Doesn't have" section, and then telling it to forward to my address. That basically tells it that if it's not from one of those people, forward it, if it is, don't. And I thought it was working, but I tested it today with another one of my addresses, and it doesn't work. It's like it's searching the subject and body for the "Doesn't have" things, but not the from address. If there was a way I could put the "from" operator in the "Doesn't have" section, that would do it, but I don't know how.
Thanks. |

I'm not sure if the filter search parameters would be the same as the 'usual', but you could try putting quotation marks around each address to look for an exact match.
Try a list like that, separated by commas. If it's possible, you might also have different luck by using a "whitelist" approach. |

Try this : when creating your filter, in the From field put :
-123@yahoo.com -mymail@mymail.com -anything@anymail.com and put the forward on to your forward address. This should do the job. FYI, I got the information from here (Google Help Center) Hope this helps |
