If it didn't show you the email address where the email came from then it would be scammer and spammer paradise.
As far as I'm aware, you cannot change this.

So, what is the benifit of adding email addresses to gmail?

So that you can use several with only one account.
You've lost me now anyway - I thought you were talking about the "Reply address", not adding new email account to Gmail.

Reading mails in gmail is easier and better not like hotmail where you have to canstantly say I want to open it.br
I usually forward all my mails to google, cause its easier to use.br
