The problem seems to be related to the particular private wireless network I first tried to access Gmail from (in this case one of the many cafes here in Seattle.) This morning, when connecting from another wireless network, OE succesfully accessed Gmail.

Socket Error 10060 is when your connection times out.

Everything is OK now. Thanks for the feedback. The problem was a very aggressive firewall at the wireless network where I first configured OE to access Gmail. Oddly the firewall only interferred with the Gmail connection.

mondine is an unknown quantity at this point
I'm going to guess that your Gmail was the only account that needed a SSL connection,
and so uses different ports than your other accounts.

Just a simple tip, if at anytime Gmail is down or fooling about, go to your browser search box and type GMail, click on the link and it will open your account - scarey if you were using someone elses PC though.
