Something must be wrong with your browser. Gmail does not need ActiveX controls to be enabled.
It works perfectly on IE for me, and I haven't got ActiveX controls enabled. I think you could try re-installing IE if you have the setup. Or you could try a different browser, like Firefox. Its much, much better than IE. |

FONT face="Comic Sans MS"/FONT FONT face="Comic Sans MS"I finally managed to resolve this in the early hours of this morning. For the benefit of anyone coming across this thread in the future here is how to fix this problem:/FONT FONT face="Arial Narrow"ActiveX errors are caused by certain browser settings and misconfigured system files. To solve the problem, please adjust the settings in Internet Explorer by following the steps below:/FONT FONT face="Arial Narrow"/FONT OLLIFONT face="Arial Narrow"Click the 'Tools' menu at the top of your browser, and select 'Internet Options.' /FONTLIFONT face="Arial Narrow"Click the 'Security' tab at the top of the dialogue box, and set 'Medium' as the 'Security level for this zone.'/FONTLIFONT face="Arial Narrow"Click 'Custom Level' button and ensure that the following are set to 'Enabled':BR /FONTFONT face="Arial Narrow"Run ActiveX controls and plug-insBR /FONTFONT face="Arial Narrow"Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scriptingBR /FONTFONT face="Arial Narrow"Scripting /FONTLIFONT face="Arial Narrow"Click 'OK' after these settings are enabled. /FONTLIFONT face="Arial Narrow"Click 'OK' again to save your changes. /FONTLIFONT face="Arial Narrow"Log in to Google Mail again./FONT/LI/OLPFONT face="Arial Narrow"If your browser was already set correctly, it's likely that you have a misconfigured system file. Here's how to reset the system file to the default settings:/FONTOLLIFONT face="Arial Narrow"Click the 'Start' button in Windows. /FONTLIFONT face="Arial Narrow"Select 'Run.' /FONTLIFONT face="Arial Narrow"Enter 'regsvr32 msxml3.dll' in the 'Open:' field, and click 'OK.'/FONT/LI/OLPFONT face="Arial Narrow"After a moment, a dialogue box notifies you that the file was properly reset. Click 'OK' in the dialogue box to exit. /FONTPFONT face="Arial Narrow"After making this change, please close all instances of Internet Explorer and open a new browser window to log back in to Google Mail./FONTPFONT face="Comic Sans MS"Interestingly this wretched .dll file also prevented Windows Live Messenger from functioning fully too./FONTP |
