Need to attache .exe files
Argh, Gmail's restriction on not allowing .exe attachments bites!
Every now and again I need to attach a .exe file or include a .exe file in a zip file I am sending and Gmail won't allow me to do that. I understand the security risks in sending around .exe files, but it is not a sufficient excuse for totally banning them. Does anybody else find this too restrictive? Yip |

You used to be able to trick GMail by renaming the zip file (so blah.zip would become blah.bmp) then you just need the recipient to rename it back. You could also Base64 encode the attachment and then send it as a .txt. Or just do what I do and install the Apache webserver <http://apache.org> and have people download the exe from there.

Gmail also does not accept .exe attachments, so email sent to me which was getting forwarded to the gmail address automatically was also bouncing.
Allowing .exe attachments for incoming/outgoing mail should be a 'preference option', not something that is dictated to everybody! |
